Danville is an independent city situated at the southern end of Pittsylvania County, the largest county in Virginia, and is found along the Dan River in the heart of the Piedmont. It borders the North Carolina state line. The incorporated city covers an area of 43.678 square miles. Pittsylvania County covers 983 square miles.
