Omnet managed the computer communications for scientists and researchers working on multi-national oceanographic and atmospheric research projects. The first ship-to-shore computer communications were via Omnet's SCIENCEnet. SCIENCEnet communication was sent from Mt. Everest base camp to Omnet's South.Pole box, an international first.
