Albuquerque, NM, August 2009 – The New Mexico Project for Financial Literacy, Inc. is launching a two and a half day training session combining financial content with coaching skills. This unique course, which is team-taught by a Certified Financial Planner® and a Master Certified Coach, will give both coaches and financial planners the important training needed to coach their clients to create a healthy financial picture for themselves. Attendees who are ICF certified coaches or Certified Financial Planners® will earn CE or CCEU credits as they become more skilled in the growing field of “financial coaching.”

The New Mexico Project for Financial Literacy Financial Coaching Training Session will be held from September 28 – 30, at CNM’s Workforce Training Center located at 5600 Eagle Rock Avenue NE. Albuquerque, NM 87113. This innovative program, developed with funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, will arm coaches and financial planners with the tools they need not only to meet the needs of clients in helping them achieve a healthy financial life – but will give coaches and financial planners a competitive edge and help them grow their own businesses.

Coaching skills have been proven a most valuable way to help clients and their extended families during these stressful economic times. This training session will provide financial planners with the opportunity to learn content related to bankruptcy precursors, Fair Debt Collection, and other debt and credit issues which have become increasingly more important in serving clients and their extended families. Coaches attending this training session will be able to improve their understanding of the internal and external obstacles impacting clients today as they grapple with achieving their financial goals, and will also learn when to refer clients to other financial professionals. Both coaches and planners will improve their ability to coach a wide variety of clients and facilitate client wealth, while simultaneously earning continuing education credits.

All CFPs attending the New Mexico Project for Financial Literacy Financial Coaching Training Session will earn 10 Continuing Education credits, and coaches attending the session will receive 16 coaching CCEUs. In addition, participants will receive a number of value-added “take-home” tools and products that will enable both life coaches and financial planners to provide comprehensive financial coaching to their clients – including coaching skills/financial planning worksheets and a variety of charts and collateral material to enrich their day-to-day dealings with clients.

Cost for the two and a half day session is $1,000. Participants can register online, as well as view a complete program outline and schedule, at www.nmpfl.org.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for both life coaches and financial planners to provide their clients with strategic financial coaching, especially in today’s economy when people are looking to people they trust to help them best manage both their lives and their finances,” says Vicki Van Horn, Founder and Executive Director of the New Mexico Project for Financial Literacy. “In creating this program, our goal is to give life coaches the information and skills to help them talk to their clients about a wide range of financial topics, and provide financial planners with expert insight from top coaches in the industry in order to arm them with the communication skills that are also so important in dealing with a wide range of clients today. Many clients today are dealing with different financial circumstances than financial planners are traditionally accustomed to, and this training program will allow them to learn the skills necessary to best help both their existing, and potentially new, clients.”

Coaching content will be taught by Mary Beth Shewan, MS, MCC owner/principal of Wholelife Coaching. Mary Beth has coached thousands of individuals over her 13-year career, working primarily with Lifestyle Entrepreneurs - those who are looking to create work/life balance while creating abundance through meaningful work.
“It is my great pleasure to partner with Vicki and NMPFL on this project,” says Mary Beth Shewan. “This Financial Coaching training session will help build a bridge of strong financial content and coaching skills to enable professionals to confidently address their clients financial future.“
