12: Field theory and polynomials
ABOUT: POINTERS: 12: Field theory and polynomials Introduction Field theory considers sets, such as the real number line, on which all the usual arithmetic properties hold --- those governing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The study of multiple fields through Galois theory is important for the study of polynomial equations, and thus has applications to number theory and ...

Galois Field Package
Galois Field Package for Mathematica Ryoh Fuji-Hara University of Tsukuba Abstract When we implement an algebraic system like a group, a ring or a finite field within an existing symbolic computational language, then there are three possible approaches: (1) define new operators: for example; if we define an operator %+% for addition on a finite field, then we could operate in the following ...

This is what Ferrari is recognized to have achieved
This is what Ferrari is recognized to have achieved: Cardano was given a word problem by another mathematician, which equated to this equation: x4 + 6x2 + 36 = 60x (original equation) Cardano was unable to solve it. He then passed it onto Ferrari who managed to solve it. It is almost a quartic equation (ax4 + bx3 + cx2 + dx + e = 0) except for the fact that it does not have a bx3 term in it.
